Podcast: Is the Reduction Mandate Just?

Är reduktionsplikten rättvis?

This podcast discusses Sweden's reduction mandate, a policy requiring biofuel blending, as a case study in the complexities of climate governance and temporal justice. It analyses 83 op-eds published in Dagens Nyheter between 2016 and 2024 surrounding the mandate, revealing how different actors construct narratives of the past, present, and future to legitimise their positions. The debate not only highlights conflicts between economic and ecological priorities but also raises deeper questions about temporal justice—who bears the costs today, who will pay the price in the future, and which historical experiences are given legitimacy.  Ultimately, the analysis argues that climate policy involves managing time and balancing immediate needs with long-term consequences for a just transition.
